Message from Dr. Deb 09/17/2007

Welcome to The Women’s Connection website – where our goal and mission is to build a community in which women can connect with other women for social events, physical exercise, educational programs, and spiritual support. Our hope is that you will meet interesting and fun women who share your interests and perhaps become your friends!
This website was my sister Teri’s idea and it wasn’t hard for her to interest me in helping her develop the concept when I moved to Washington in August of 2005. I have picked up and moved to a new state four times in my life and I am aware of how difficult it can be to meet new people and develop a network of friends who share similar interests. I am planning to make use of the Women Connect link myself! We see that as perhaps the most important part of this website and Teri has explained how that works in her welcome letter (See About Us) so I won't repeat it here.
We hope that you will use our website as a place to see what is going on in the area and join us for events and activities sponsored by The Women’s Connection. And we definitely hope that you will also use the Women Connect link to find women who would be interested in joining you for other local events or who share your interests. For example, you might want to find one or more women to join you for a symphony or a play. Or you may want to find women for ongoing interactions or activities such as trying out new restaurants or starting a book club or tennis group. And because our goal is to build a community, we hope that you will feel free to become involved and let us know of events you would like to have posted on our calendar as well as programs or events that you would like to organize or present which highlight your own skills and talents.
We look forward to not only meeting you, but to playing a role in supporting your social, physical, mental, and spiritual growth. My background is in mental health and spiritual development and I would welcome opportunities to present programs or post information in those areas. In particular, I have expertise in stress and anxiety management, attention deficit disorder in adults, communication and listening skills, and other topics, so please feel free to contact us if you have ideas on how we might help you to meet your goals along these lines or if you have ideas for programs you would like to see presented.
Teri and I look forward to meeting you!
Warmest regards,
Deb Dunphy
Upcoming Women's Retreats 09/15/2007
While our website is new, The Women’s Connection got started in late 2006 and kicked off with a women’s retreat in November on Camano Island. The agenda for our day and a half long retreat included basket-making, yoga, a discussion of The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle and a tasty and healthy lunch, dinner and breakfast! Accommodations for the retreat were provided by Melissa Hsu, owner of the lovely Camano Blossom Bed & Breakfast and Kurt and Leslie Asplund, owners of the beautiful Spirit Ridge Inn, located on the north end of Camano Island. Thanks to all the women who participated in our first retreat (our “steering committee”) and contributed to its success as well as provided valuable feedback regarding The Women’s Connection in general. I think we all agreed it was a very relaxing and enjoyable week-end!
