Teri & Deb
Welcome to The Women’s Connection website! My sister Deb and I developed this idea after I participated in the 3 day, 60 mile breast cancer walk in 2005. About five months prior to the walk, I joined a wonderful training team to prepare for the event. Our team leader was an amazing woman who cheerfully scheduled training walks around the Seattle area every Saturday at 8:00 a.m. All we had to do was show up! It was so easy and such a great experience to meet other women with similar goals. After successfully completing the 3 day walk with over 3,000 "can-do" women I thought how fun it would be to plan similar activities with the hope of connecting women with common goals and interests.
The objective of The Women’s Connection is twofold: 1) First is to sponsor events in the Seattle and Bellingham area where women can meet and enjoy various organized activities. 2) The second feature of The Women’s Connection is the Women Connect link, which will allow women to post interest in an activity of their own and connect with someone who would like to join them for that activity. (Such as: "I’d like to play tennis next Tuesday, anyone interested?")
Consistent with the above objectives, you will find that our calendar lists two types of events. Some events will be sponsored by The Women’s Connection or will be activities in the area that The Women’s Connection will attend. For these events you just need to "sign up and show up!". Other events listed on the calendar will be fun events that we think you should know about. If you would like to go to an event NOT sponsored or attended by The Women’s Connection you can click on the Women Connect link and ask if someone in The Women's Connection membership would like to join you. Our goal is to establish regular walking groups, tennis groups, golf foursomes, book groups… (YOU name it!) and to provide a forum for women to participate in activities that they may not otherwise do on their own, simply because they lacked someone to participate with them.
You may first want to join us for some of The Women’s Connection sponsored events so you can get to know our members. After meeting members, you may then want to venture out to the Women Connect feature to pursue friendships and activities with members on your own.
As we launch The Women’s Connection, we would like to offer a membership free of charge so you can become acquainted with the organization. As we develop our organization, it may be necessary to charge a nominal monthly fee to help defray our costs. Please understand that this is a work in progress and we welcome your input! Feel free to email Deb or me with suggestions about activities of interest which we can include on our calendar of scheduled events.
Deb and I are looking forward to meeting you!
Best Regards, Teri McLean
